Chinese are obsessed with sons because:
1) They are boys and boys have dicks. Girls don't.
2) Boys can fuck and pass down their stupid genes (from one generation to another). Girls are just a piece of equipment in this process.
3) Because of 2), the family name is able to be passed down through the stupid sonSss.
4) Boys bear the family name FOREVER. Girls don't because once married the girls will adopt their husband's surname.
5) Boys are conferred the duty to deliver their parents' 'headstone' to the nether world. Girls are not allowed to do so by custom because they are girls.
My family has three girls. Ever since I was a little girl, nosey people such as neighbours, friends and relatives have been constantly bombarding my parents with idiotic questions like these:
"Girls only ar?"
"No son ar?"
"Don't wanna 'try' again meh? Maybe you will hit the jackpot this time round!!!"
I pity all these narrow-minded old-fashioned Chinese people who never see the world outside the 'Great Well', for they adamantly believe in the following formula only:
Equation 1: No boy = no future.
Equation 2: No future = doomed.
But today, I want to extend your so-called 'perfect' equations to reflect what is really happening in our society today:
Equation 3: If you have a son and your son is gay, then you have no son. So go to Equation 1 & 2.
Equation 4: If you have a daughter and your daughter is married, then you lose a daughter and gain ½ a son.
Equation 5: If you have a son and your son is married, then you gain a daughter and lose ½ a son.
So in the end, you will get the following:
Equation 6: The more sons you have, the more 'daughters' you will get.
For example:
3 sons + 3 daughter-in-laws = 1½ sons + 3 'daughters'.
Equation 7: The more daughters you have, the more 'sons' you will get.
For example:
3 daughters + 3 son-in-laws = 1½ 'sons'. *wink wink*
(So darling, are you sure that you still want a son now?)
Oh and BTW, just in case I haven't pissed you off enough, do you know that the gender of a baby is determined by the father's sperm? Sperm that carries the X chromosome will produce you a daughter. And sperm that carries the Y chromosome will produce you a son.
