Titoki and Dong Zhi

Today is Dong Zhi or Winter Solstice in English. Dong Zhi is the most important festival of the Chinese calendar. It is equivalent to the thanksgiving celebrated in western countries. Dong Zhi literally means 'arrival of winter'.

Coinciding with the Winter Solstice, it is an occasion for family reunions and also to begin the countdown for Chinese New Year. (Dong Zhi occurs 6 weeks before CNY and would normally fall between 21st Dec and 23rd Dec.)

To me, Dong Zhi is a bitter sweet festivity.

One year ago today I split up with my ex-bf of four years. He turned into a green Hulk (sometimes human, sometimes inhumane), when I rejected his offer to celebrate Dong Zhi with him and his family. The uproar was so great that I had to run for my life.

And now that Dong Zhi is here again. It dawns on me that one year has already come and gone just like that. Time really flies. Bygone's must be left bygone's.

If not of the break-up, there won't be a Titoki's Secret Diary online today. If not of this diary, my broken heart wouldn't have healed so fast so furiously. And if not of this diary, I wouldn't have known YOU.

So Dong Zhi is not that bitter after all. At least it gives me a new lease of sweet life. So sweet that it tastes like the Tang Yuan:

Dear readers, Happy Dong Zhi to you! And hopefully your life will be as sweet as the Tang Yuan too. ;)
