What a recruiter REALLY REALLY REALLY wants

In response to my Kita memang boleh! post, a few of you have asked me if I could share some tips with you on what a recruiter REALLY REALLY REALLY wants from the applicants.

I may not be the right person to guide you on CV writing and etc, but as a recruiter, I can however share a few pointers with you in regards to selecting candidates for interview:

1. Presentation
The alignment and presentation of a CV is very important. Limit yourself to two different fonts and sizes only. Remember K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid). As a recruiter, we have hundreds of CVs to scan through each day. Messy CV is an eyesore. And messy CV also implies that you are not a person who will put in your effort to get a job well done.

2. Write in English only
Don't write your CV in other languages. No one will read it.

3. No personal info
Don't leave a window/door opens for your recruiters to discriminate against you. Picture, age, gender, weight, height, family background, current salary & etc are not required in a CV.

4. Sell your skills
Don't hesitate to pen down what you have learnt and done. Trivial things like helping a friend to setup a computer network at home is also considered as a very important piece of info for fresh grad who is looking for an IT job. But if you already have work experiences in the IT field, you can omit it.

5. No grandmother stories
Don't bother to tell us how many clubs, societies or activities which you have participated in the past because we really have no time to read and no interest to know unless it's relevant to the job.

6. No boo shit
Don't lie. Don't boast. If we suspect your info is dodgy, we won't hesitate to give your current employer a call.

7. Important headings, info, subjects in a CV:
Name, phone, address, education, skills and work experiences.

Well, I think that should be it for today on what kind of things a recruiter is looking for in an application. If you want to learn more about the recruitment process and/or the interview questions, please let me know. Cheerios.

Have a nice weekend. :)
